Function : Senior Associate – Infrastructure & Renewable Investments

JOB SUMMARY
- The Investment Associate will actively participate in the commercial development deal-making (support / lead origination, lead execution, keenly involved in debt raising) as well as portfolio management and strategic exit readiness.
- The ideal candidate will currently be an experienced investment professional – they will have had prior Investment Banking/ Big 4 experience and/or Infra Private Equity.
- Qualitatively, they will align with their belief and passion for North-African markets and will be enthusiastic about a progressive career within the company.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the development of a strong pipeline of opportunities by anticipating market trends and employing sector/sponsor/country knowledge.
- Lead the structuring of project development and equity investments.
- Participate and/or lead negotiations with sponsors, lenders, and public authorities.
- Lead the Group contribution to the development of projects in the portfolio with a strong focus on achieving bankable projects.
- Have a good understanding of renewable energies projects structuring and financing issues.
- Prepare project-related documents for internal and external audiences.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local/regional/global/infrastructure companies, banking and multilateral partners, and government officials.
- Develop a thorough knowledge of the renewable energies, green hydrogen, carbon, digital infrastructure sectors, including market major operators and technologies.
- Contribute to supervising portfolio companies.
- Draft the development and presentation of investment recommendations.
- Provide regular reports and updates to senior management, highlighting project performance, risks, and opportunities.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 3 to 6 years’ investment and industry experience in project development, investment and/or project finance in the power and/or transport sectors within:
- the project finance / infrastructure / power department of a Tier 1 international investment bank
- the infrastructure department in a Development Finance Institution
- the infrastructure / PPP department of a transaction / financial advisory firm
- an infrastructure private equity fund with exposure to early to mid-stage project development
ORGANIZATION-WIDE COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Interest in infrastructure investment in North Africa.
- Strong connection to North Africa and intent to have North Africa-focused career.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure sectors (which may include power, digital infrastructure, transport, ICT, water etc.)
- Strong understanding of PPP project structuring and project finance (incl. Concession agreements, PPAs, EPC, O&M contracts)
- Awareness of the latest trends and developments in financing infrastructure
- Strong business development and client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on clients’ needs effectively and identify potential business partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, Arabic and French.
- Strong inter-personal skills, ability to interact effectively at a senior level and create sufficient trust and confidence with sponsors, partners and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds; living experience in emerging countries is a plus.
- Prior knowledge of African infrastructure and relationships in Africa are a strong plus.
- Advanced financial modelling- DCF, M&A Models, Accretion Dilution Analysis, Comparable Analysis & other forms of valuation along with Waterfall fee structures (implying advanced Excel skills).
- A proven track record of taking major bids through Capture Planning, Pre-Qualification, Tender, Negotiation, and Handover stages.
