Mouloud BAKLI, Algeria Country Director at Gaia Energy, leading a solarisation conference project on sea water desalination plants at AEC.
AEC (Algeria Electricity Company) has currently 11 stations cumulating 1.7Million M3/day. Algerias is ranked 3rd worldwide and its current capacity is representing 17% of the country drinkable water consumption.
AEC will reach 2.3Million M3/day by end of 2020 by adding 3 more desalination plants (~670.000 m3/day). The electricity represents 23-25% of the cost of desalinated water in Algeria.
Sea water desalination plants using PV is meant to reduce water cost ($/M3) and hence increase gaz export.
